Week 6 - Environment design in maya and traditional 2 point and 3 ponit perspective for storybording

3D modelling is hard. For the most part i don't understand what to do or how to do it. So i'm quite proud of my Beano City.  Going into it i had an idea of what i wanted to achieve. I took a lot of inspiration form the new animated Spiderman movie. i took inspiration from the different shots of New York and the different perspectives the trailer showcased.

i like the aesthetic of the trailer, how they deliberately chopped up the frame rate to mimic the old style of traditional animation.
I also decided to model it in Maya because i struggle to draw in 2 point and 3 point perspective. I knew i could find drawing the buildings difficult so i 3d molded them instead.

week 5 background character line up, coloured model sheet and peer review

I decided to include the rest of her family as additional background characters. i imagined  early on that she's living with her grandparents and little brother Alfie.
Alfie is an interesting background character, i see potential in him to become billie's sidekick when he grows up. Billie the cat and Alfie the owl. Like the owl and the pussycat nonsense poem.
his grandparents design is based on my own grandmother and the guy from Pixars UP.

I added a 3/4 turnaround pose to my concept art board. i was also thinking about taking away the backpack as i feel like it would obstruct her from doing her free funning, gymnastics and arresting the bad guys

I also experimented with slightly different colour schemes. I like the one with the bluer belt and tail.

Week 4 - Asset Sheet, Colouring, Silhouettes and Model Making

Once i had the basic outline of Billies model sheet, i proceeded to completing a silhouette version. Silhouette are used to ensure that the character will work well animated. the execution of this didn't go as planned. i should have flattened the layers then applied a black overlay onto the layer using the fx tool. However, i i coloured it all in manually. This took much longer.

This week I completed the model sheet for Billie the cat. I took away her backpack completely as it was becoming cumbersome for her. She needs to be able to do her hero work without being weighed down by a backpack. Looking back, i might change her logo as its not really that memorable. In order to achieve this i will look at other logos and see what makes them successful.
I also started drawing out an asset sheet for her. To explain each of the different cat toys on her utility belt.

week 3 - Model Sheet

This week i created the character model sheets and refined my character turnaround. For the model, to create the poses i used reference images from Pinterest. I focused on free running and gymnastics as the original billy the cat was a gymnast. I could also imagine her running and leaping from rooftop to rooftop like a free runner. I also wanted to demonstrate the use of her tail as a propeller for when she falls, it is also used for balance like a real cats.

i also drew her with her helmet off to see what she would look like as her normal self. i wanted her to be a friendly character that people especially young children could relate to and even look up o. Because she is blind she has to try extra hard to get to the places she wants to be in life. She doesn't like people telling her what she can and cant do. She's kind of a rebel n that respect, but this isn't her main personality trait.

what went well?
i like her hair, you can tell that it is meant to be wavey and curly, a bit messy from wearing the helmet.
the poses for the model sheet turned out well. I think i got a good range of poses.

what could be improved?
i dont like the shame of her eyes, they could e less creepy and have more personalty to them.
i dont like her backpack as much as i initially did. i feel like it looks to clunky on her back
