Task 12 - Secondary Motion

The term secondary is anything that comes after something. Secondary action is the action that follows on the initial action. It is usually less important and not the primary focus.
In this task we had to create a hybrid animation, whereby we had to demonstrate our understanding of secondary action. My initial idea was to be abducted by aliens, however, I was informed that this was not secondary action as the action needed to be connected to a part of my body, such as hair or long floppy ears. Because of this I changed my idea and gave myself a tail which moved as I walked down the corridor.

What went well?
·      It was a time efficient shoot which gave me enough time to focus creating the animation and completing it to the deadline.
·      Putting the animation in went well

What could be improved?
·      I could’ve done my initial idea by coming up with a way secondary motion could be incorporated into it.
·      It doesn’t necessarily demonstrate my skills as an animator, because it doesn’t have the same level of attention to detail as previous tasks.

Task 11 - Follow Though and overlapping action

Overlapping action, is where parts of an object move before or at different rates. for example, an arm will move from the shoulder down at different rates as each joint moves the attached part. Follow through action when a person with long hair moves their head quickly, after their head has stopped moving their hair will continue to move

In this task, we were required to create an animation whereby boxes were to be pushed along the ground, come to an abrupt stop and show the resulting action.

What went well?
·      I planned this animation in advance well, this shows well in the final product.
·      My planning also helped me meet the brief.
·      I enjoyed doing the snow, figuring out how the snow would fall was really useful.
What could be improved?
·      At the time, it didn’t occur to me that you could duplicate the video frame because of this some of the boxes and the sled became distorted as I was filling in frames.
·      In addition to by last point, there is a lot of line boil. While this can look okay at times, it was not what I was going for.
·      The snow is too distracting.
·      The box at the end opens too fast

Task 10 -Staging

In this task we had to create a storyboard panel based off a children nursery rhyme. I chose Incy wincy spider as i felt like i would be able to pull some cool aesthetics out of it.

What went well?
The story line is concise, with the nursery rhyme, the only thing i altered slightly, to fit a darker aesthetic was the spider dying at the end instead of drying out and going to live on another day.
you can tell what i going on just by looking at it  (i asked multiple people)
i used a limited colour pallet, only using colour to emphasis a certain action or feeling.

What could be improved?
the stage directing could be a bit clearer.
i could've used some more specialized words to better indicate what i wanted to happen.

LAUAN403 Task 9 Anticipation

Newtons laws of physics is defined a every action must have an equal and opposite reaction. The same can also be applied in a physical sense in animation. For every action there must be a build up and a follow though. We call the build up anticipation. In this task we had to demonstrate our knowledge of anticipation based on this. I chose to re create my flip book form the 1st week. Only this time using Photoshop animation and premier editing tools. I wanted it to remain in a flip book kind of style, so i chose not to colour the line art.

what went well?
the background design was true to the look and feel of my original flip book
ive never animated a stick figure before, this was a good exercise to learn how the human body moves ad behaves.

what could be improved?
I wanted to do the charicter in the same style as the backgrounfd, however, i ran out of time
the anticipation could be a little more obvious

Study Task 8 - SQUASH & STRETCH

Squash is the phyisical manipulation on an object, either by gravity or an external force. stretch is the activity of an object being made longer without tearing or breaking. It can be used in conjunction with squash to create a realistic sense of movement, or together with exaggeration, it can be used to an artistic effect such as in rubber hose animation.
In this task we had to create a simple bouncing ball to demonstrate out knowledge of squash and stretch. We had to create two animations one where the ball was to be dropped straight down and another where the ball was required to have some lateral motion as it dropped.

 What went well?
  • I planned this task better than previous tasks, this improved the outcome. The inital design was more completely realised in the final product than in previous tasks.
  • The objective of the task was clearly depicted in the animations. In addition to this it was the main foucus point of the finished products.

What could be improved?
  • In my second animation, the ball gets slightly smaller as it moves foward. This could be corrected by keeping the bush size consistant thoughout the animation process.
  • In the seconnd animation, the ball moves slightly too fast for the decline of the hill and it rolls off too quickly when it comes to a stop. This could be improved by taking more time to concider the timing of the bounce and the spacing of the frames as the ball rolls off.

LAUAN403 Task 7 Exagerration

For this task we learned about the principle of animation though and unexpected way. Our task was too create 5 abstract animations that would test and demonstrate our knowledge of the principle exaggeration.

what went well
  • my timing, pacing and easing seem to have improved
  • i like the range of motion and experimental animation i was able to get out of this task

what could be improved?
  • i could have used a wider range of media for this task, for example i could have used some claymation or pixalation
  • i feel like my movements could have been more obviously exaggerated

LAUAN403 Task 6 Solid Drawing

for this principle we had to keep a sketchbook for a week and fill it with observational drawings of people. With a time limit of 2 miniutes maximum. From this we had to choose 20 that best demonstrates our understanding of olid drawing.

What went well?
I learned how to draw accurately and quickly.
i learned about flow lines
It got me back into the habbit of carrying a sketchbook everwhere

What could be improved?
i thnk i could have simplifyed the shapes better and use a wider range of media.

LAUAN Task 5 - Arcs

For this principle of animation, we learned about the basics of arks and how they can be used to create a more realistic movement.
Initially i slowed things down as they got into the center of the art, however, as my friend pointed out to me it would slow down at the top of the ark and speed up in the middle. i wanted to keep the second animation simple and focus more on the animation of the pendulum rather then the aesthetics
what went well?
  1. the drawing aspect of the grandfather clock, which all the organs and the atomically correct heart.
  2. the animation of the blood splatter timed to the chime of the clock.
  3. my second animation which focused primarily on the ark motion was a lot smoother than the grandfather clock animation.
What could be improved?
  1. the animation on the grandfather clock pendulum could be a lot smoother, i could remedy this by planning it out better next time
  2. i wish i had more time to fully explore my intal idea for the grand farther clock.

LAUAN Task 4 - easing

In this tak we worked on the principles of easing. This is the slowing in and sowing out of movements. For this task i decided to try my hand at traditional frame by frame animation. 100 individual drawings later and i had this master peace

What went well
  • Time management for this project, i worked on it for 2 hours every night for a week trying to get it to look right
  • Properly learning the rostrum set up
  • i can now draw a motorbike with my eyes closed
What could be improbed
  • I think the frames could be more consistent from one to the next. This would cut down the amount if line boil there is.
  • My drawing skills, while component, could be better.

lauan task 3

Appeal
For my character i wanted someone likeable and friendly. Someone that everyone could relate to. At first i couldn't think of anything, so i considered using one of my own original characters that had an already established backstory and setting. However, i really wanted to push myself. So after some brain storming and discussions with Matt i came up with Trubell (pronounced trouble)
the anthropomorphic drag queen squirrel.

For my character turn around and artbord i used the examples given as guides on what i should be doing. I  also had one of my classmates take reference pictures for the turn around. My initial sketches of my character look nothing alike how the final finished product turned out.I am glad of this tho because i could see and tell that my initial sketches took a lot of influence from the likes of chip and
dale and the nut job
